Commonly referred to as the water apple or bell apple, Rainforest Cherries originate from the tropical regions of eastern Australia. Described as the love child of a watermelon and a cherry, this captivating fruit is a bright pink to red in hue, and offers a refreshing, crisp and juicey texture. Flavour-wise Rainforest Cherries boast a delightful balance of sweet and tangy cherry-rose flavours, with an interesting tannin dryness. This exotic fruit is best applied in sweet dishes, however it also offers a delightfully sweet and tangy contrast when used in savoury dishes. Rinse before use.

Rainforest Cherry Dessert: Make a simple fruit salad by mixing Rainforest Cherry slices with other fruits like mango, pineapple, and pawpaw. Serve it with a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of shredded coconut.
Rainforest Cherry Salad: Slice the Rainforest Cherry thinly. Toss them with mixed greens, sliced red onions, and some toasted walnuts or almonds. Drizzle with a light vinaigrette dressing made from olive oil, lemon juice, honey, and a touch of Dijon mustard.
Rainforest Cherry Salsa: Dice Rainforest Cherry, along with tomatoes, red onions, coriander, and a touch of jalapeno for some heat. Mix them together and add a squeeze of lime juice and a pinch of salt. Serve this salsa with tortilla chips or as a topping for grilled chicken or fish.
Rainforest Cherry Chutney: Combine diced Rainforest Cherry with sugar, vinegar, and spices like cinnamon, cloves, and ginger in a saucepan. Simmer the mixture until it thickens into a chutney-like consistency. Use this chutney as a condiment for roasted or grilled meats.
Rinse before use. Thaw frozen fruit between 1-5 degrees Celsius, and store refrigerated. Consume within 3-4 days.
The fruit can be used sliced fresh, pureed, pickled, or cooked.
In sweet applications, use sugar to cut the acidity.
