(Ocimum tenuiflorum)
Occurring naturally along the arid regions of northern Australia, Native Basil, also known as wild basil or ‘bubble gum’ basil, is closely related to Asian holy basil, and bares many similarities. When its large leaves are crushed or milled, they release a powerful aroma of basil and bubble gum, with minty undertones. Flavour-wise, it boasts a palate of sweet basil, with a mild spice. This captivating herb is best applied in Asian style dishes- wherever Thai basil is called for. Start with a small amount and adjust to taste, as the flavours can be quite intense.
